Has experience in the area of ??Computer Science, currently conducts research focused on: information science and information technology, investigating issues related to the Data Life Cycle, Transparency and Information Flow in Productive Chains. He worked as a professor at Faccat Faculdade de Ciências Contábeis e Administração de Tupã, where he coordinated a course of Administration with Qualification in Systems Analysis for ten years and the course of Licenciatura in Computing. He worked in the private sector as a consultant, integrator and researcher of new information technologies from 1988 to 2004.

Resumo
Os metadados são importantes para proporcionar a organização, a representação, o acesso, a busca, a recuperação e a preservação dos recursos informacionais nos diferentes domínios do conhecimento e ambientes informacionais digitais. Os metadados podem desempenhar diversas funções, sendo que uma das mais requeridas nos ambientes informacionais na atualidade refere-se a preservação digital e curadoria digital. Assim, o problema norteador deste trabalho está em identificar qual o papel dos metadados na curadoria digital? Por meio de uma metodologia exploratória, o objetivo deste trabalho é abordar a importância e o papel dos metadados na curadoria digital, assim como, identificar quais os principais tipos ou categorias de metadados mais utilizados na curadoria digital. Os resultados parciais deste trabalho, revelam uma variedade de papéis ou funções que os metadados podem exercer no cenário da curadoria digital, assim como, uma variedade de padrões a serem utilizados, dependendo do contexto ou domínio. Deste modo, a próxima fase do estudo encaminha-se para a identificação dos padrões de metadados que podem ser utilizados no cenário de curadoria digital.

Abstract
Metadata is important to provide the organization, representation, access, search, retrieval and preservation of information resources in different domains of knowledge and digital information environments. Metadata can perform several functions, and one of most required in today's information environments refers to digital preservation and digital curation. Thus, the guiding problem of this work lies in identifying the role of metadata in digital curation. Through an exploratory methodology, the objective of this research is to approach the importance and role of metadata in digital curation, also identify main types or categories of metadata most used in digital curation. The partial results of this research reveal a variety of roles or functions that metadata can exert in digital curatorial scenario, as well, as a variety of standards to be used depending on context or domain. Thus, next phase of the study is directed to identify metadata standards that can be used in digital curation scenario.
