Abstract

The constant advance of the Digital Information and Communication Technologies caused changes in the scientific scene, transforming the way of thinking and doing science. The fourth paradigm of science, called e-Science, can be briefly defined as a science largely geared to data from scientific research. This reality shows to be a broad field of action for the Information Science Professionals. From an exploratory and documentary research, with quantitative and qualitative analysis, we investigated whether the disciplines that are part of the curricula of the Graduate Programs in Information Science evaluated and recognized by the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel, are within the reality of e-Science, its variations and practices. Considering the results obtained with the research, we found that among the twenty-three Graduate Programs in the area of Information Science, eleven, representing 47.82% of the programs offer subjects that deal with the phenomenon of e-Science, its relations, its variations and its practices. It was noticed that the Graduate Programs in Information Science analyzed are adequate, as well as presenting pioneering courses in the context of e-Science, such as the professional master's degree in Data Management Research offered by the Federal University of the Rio de Janeiro state.

Keywords: e-Science. Information Science. Graduates studies in Information Science.
